The browser can process formats its Web Audio decoder supports, commonly WAV, MP3, and M4A. Codec support varies by browser; the output is always a 16-bit PCM WAV. Files are limited to 50MB.
Detection uses peak amplitude windows and your threshold/minimum-duration settings. It is deterministic, but not semantic: quiet speech, breaths, music tails, and room tone may need a more conservative threshold.
The output preserves the decoded sample rate and channel count, then encodes 16-bit PCM WAV. Lossy uploads are decoded and re-encoded, so this is not a bit-for-bit copy of the source codec.
